But it seemed Life had other plans…

The moment I set foot in the Alpha’s House in Precious that I called my home, my ladies found me. Gabrielle led the charge.

“Wyatt, Sersi wants to move here to be with us.”

Okay. I have to admit that didn’t really surprise me, as I suspected it would happen sooner or later. She had always said she needed to make sure her people were settled first, which I totally understood. But that didn’t explain why the ladies thought it required all three of them to bring the matter to me.

“I suspect there’s a ‘but’ coming.”

All three of them nodded almost in unison. If it hadn’t been for the fact that whatever one of them said next would probably be a huge pain in my ass, I would’ve thought it was cute. Heh… who am I kidding? Even with that, they were outright adorable.

“Apparently, one of the other pre-historic primogenitors has been trying to get her attention for a while. She expressed her opinion of his efforts and general person, and now, there’s a bit of a kerfuffle in Lanton. He’s holding about three adults and half a dozen children at gunpoint, and the gun’s loaded with shifter-bane ammunition.”

Yep. Total pain in my ass. I wanted to ask why someone in a shifter community kept shifter-bane ammunition, but I knew that Sheriff Clyde kept a stock on hand, himself. He said it was useful for those situations that required something a little… more.

“You mean to tell me this guy has figured out firearms in only two months, when before the greatest technological achievement he knew was harnessing fire?”

“No matter what you think about guns, Wyatt, they are incredibly easy to use. As bad as it is to say, they’re pretty much point-and-click,” Karleen remarked, adding a shrug.

This is so not how I wanted to spend the rest of my day. But… like the man said, needs must when the Devil drives.

“Okay. Do we have a mage yet for the portal?”

Someone knocked on the front door behind me.

Lyssa beamed a smile at me. “That should be her, right now.”
